To address challenges in WAN architecture, business experience, deployment, and operations, the SD-WAN solution from Ogcloud offers comprehensive branch interconnection and data center access capabilities. This solution supports on-demand flexible networking and utilizes intelligent application routing, smart acceleration, and intelligent operation and maintenance technologies to enhance business experience and revolutionize the entire WAN interconnection process for enterprises.
What Equipment or Software is Needed for SD-WAN Networking?
SD-WAN requires the following types of equipment or software:
1. SD-WAN Edge: This is the gateway CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) device at the headquarters, branch offices, data centers, or cloud sites. It serves as the initiation and termination point of the SD-WAN tunnel, effectively acting as the network’s boundary point. SD-WAN Edge supports various network interfaces such as MPLS, Internet, and LTE, enabling flexible combinations of multiple links and load balancing. The SD-WAN Edge can be a traditional hardware CPE or a software-based vCPE (virtual CPE).
- Traditional CPE: Traditionally, CPE is a hardware device deployed on-site, consisting of control boards, interface cards, multi-core CPUs, and various hardware components. It provides Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing functions, connecting the internal and external networks of the site.
- uCPE: With the advent of cloud computing and NFV (Network Functions Virtualization) technologies, the trend is moving towards virtualized and cloud-based solutions. Security, wide-area network acceleration, and load balancing functions can be provided as Virtual Network Functions (VNFs). uCPE integrates these functions into a single device, reducing equipment costs and power consumption while enabling flexible and rapid service deployment.
- vCPE: This form decouples traditional CPE network functions from the hardware, implementing them purely in software. This approach facilitates easier and faster service deployment, enhances scalability and flexibility, and reduces deployment and operational costs.
2. SD-WAN Gateway (GW): This device connects the new SD-WAN sites with other traditional VPN sites, facilitating the interconnection between the SD-WAN network and the enterprise’s existing branch networks.
3. SD-WAN Controller: This is the core component at the management layer, responsible for orchestrating services, automating configuration deployment, and managing the network. The SD-WAN controller can interface with a self-developed portal or third-party BSS/OSS systems to enable service presentation and delivery.
4. SD-WAN Route Reflector: This is the core component at the control layer, responsible for network control within the SD-WAN. It manages the distribution and filtering of tenant VPN routes, the creation and modification of VPN topologies, and the establishment and maintenance of overlay tunnels between sites.
